A father of a student at St.
Gregory’s Catholic school in Phoenix says that aside from being a pederast, Carl Mosher, a gym teacher at the school accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student, has not only devastated the school, but he was a flat-out shitty teacher, as well. Not to mention, he had a child of his own enrolled in the school with the victim of his alleged crimes.

The father, who asked to not be identified, provided New Times with new details about the case against Mosher, and how the school handled the allegations against him — which he says was far from satisfactory.
“Typical Catholic church,” he says. “‘We didn’t see anything, we don’t know anything’…that’s how it’s been”
The father says the first time parents heard about the allegations
against Mosher was Sunday February 6 — two days after Mosher’s arrest
— and the school made the announcement via-a recorded emergency phone
message.
The problem with a phone blast about a pervert teacher who admitted to
having sex with a child is that it’s not always parents who pick up the
phone. The father says in several cases — particularly with older
students — students answered the phone. Because it’s such a small
school, many of the students made the connection as to whom the victim
was.
The victim, whose mother is also a teacher at the school, has not been
back to school since news of the allegations were made public last week.
There are only about 18 people in her entire eighth grade class, so,
the father says, the identity of the victim is fairly obvious to
students at the school.
Since Mosher’s arrest, the father says the school’s held two parent
meetings — addressing nothing of much substance — and then went back
to business as usual, without implementing any changes that might
prevent something like this from happening in the future.
St Gregory administrators could not be reached for comment this afternoon.
As for Mosher’s teaching abilities: “Carl’s a shitty teacher,” the
father says, “he spends 90 percent of the day on the phone texting when
he was supposed to be teaching. Nobody thinks Carl is a good teacher.”
The father says he and some other dads were cleaning out Mosher’s office
last week and found all sorts of stuff he’d pleaded with school
officials to fund — like athletic balls and uniforms — that students
didn’t have access to. Mosher, it seems, was just hoarding school
property he asked the school to purchase but was keeping it from the
students.
The father goes on to say that Mosher’s family is well-respected at the
school, and often serve as Eucharist ministers during church services.
Mosher’s mother was a highly regarded teacher at the school, who, the
father says, is now “falling apart” after news of her son’s crimes
broke.
The school is equally devastated, the father says.
“We’re a small school, without students we can’t survive,” he says.
“This is the time of year we normally recruit a lot of students…this
definitely isn’t helping things.
“The hardest part as a parent is the trust factor,” he continues. “[Mosher] broke that trust and there’s no way to get it back.”
Mosher’s been charged with four counts of sexual conduct with a minor. A
hearing scheduled for today was vacated, which indicates his attorneys
could be working on a plea deal. Regardless, if Mosher’s found guilty,
Arizona’s sentencing guidelines require a minimum of 13 years in prison
for each charge. Should he find himself in front of a tough judge, Mosher
could be sentenced to up to 27 years in prison for each count.
