Most of the time, things don’t work out like they do in action movies, which apparently came as a surprise to 18-year-old Luis Cardenas this morning.
Cardenas, who allegedly started a car chase with the Phoenix PD a little before 1:30 a.m. today, ended up driving to Scottsdale and onto a Scottsdale police car, at which point Cardenas narrowly avoided being shot by an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer.

According to a Scottsdale PD spokesman, Phoenix cops tried to pull over Cardenas near 52nd and Oak streets, and that got a few agencies on Cardenas’ tail, since that area’s just blocks from Tempe and South Scottsdale.
Cardenas’ Saturn was found by a Phoenix PD helicopter on the Loop 101, where Cardenas got off at McDowell Road and headed into an alley near 70th Street.
Both a Scottsdale officer and an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer entered the alley, and Cardenas tried to escape by ramming the Scottsdale cop’s car, police say.
Cardenas ended up driving onto the hood of the cop car, at which point the DPS officer fired a shot at Cardenas, which went through his windshield, but missed Cardenas.
Police were able to arrest Cardenas without shooting him or giving him any other injuries, police say.
Cardenas was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault.
