After canceling part of the pre-season, then the entire pre-season, the NHL has announced that it’s starting to cancel some regular-season games.
The NHL released a super-short statement saying regular-season games would be canceled through October 24, which includes 82 games league-wide, four of those including the Phoenix Coyotes.
Three of those games were home games for the Coyotes, and don’t be surprised if more get canceled.
The collective bargaining agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL recently expired, and there doesn’t seem to be an extreme interest by anyone involved to get a deal done.

Scores of NHL players have already agreed to play in European leagues, as was the case during the 2004-05 season, which was entirely lost due to a lockout.
Of course, fans may remember that Commissioner Gary Bettman was also running the joint during that lockout, too.
As is always the case with CBAs, each side insists the other side is a bunch of goobers who can’t do math and don’t want realistic negotiations.
As a result, the fans get to suffer, although there’s supposedly a possibility that these games could be made up if an agreement is reached.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the Coyotes still haven’t been sold to Greg Jamison, and all the crap with the City of Glendale and the arena management still hasn’t been resolved.
