Phoenix police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting last night on the I-10 — which forced the highway to be closed until about 8:30 this morning — as 49-year-old Michael Arvallo.

Phoenix Sergeant Steve Martos says the shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. yesterday as Arvallo was driving on the westbound I-10 at 51st Avenue.

Arvallo’s truck reportedly crashed into the median — presumably after he was shot.

Emergency crews arrived and immediately went to work on Arvallo. It didn’t take long before the medical crew noticed that Arvallo had been shot, at which point it was “immediately known the collision did not cause his death.”

Detectives closed down the highway from 43rd Avenue to 51st Avenue to process the crime scene. They apparently didn’t find much.

According to Martos, detectives currently have little information about the shooting — no motive, no suspect or vehicle description, etc.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602.262.6141 or Silent Witness at 480.WITNESS.
