The Oregon Ducks and Kansas State Wildcats will face off in Glendale early next month in the Fiesta Bowl, as the fourth- and fifth-ranked teams in the nation, respectively.
The finalists for the Heisman Trophy haven’t been named, but both teams have a guy that could easily fit the bill — K-State quarterback Collin Klein and Oregon running back Kenjon Barner.
Klein’s major passing stats all take a back seat to those of “Johnny Football” — Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M — and Barner’s not a lock for a seat at the trophy presentation, but it’s still a cool match-up.
As fans of the local universities may recall, they were both absolutely wrecked by the Ducks this year.
The University of Arizona put up zero points against Oregon, losing 49-0, and Arizona State lost 43-21 — with 14 of A-State’s points being scored in the fourth quarter.
Had Oregon not lost to then 13th-ranked Stanford in overtime — Oregon would be playing Notre Dame in the national championship next month.
Had K-State not gotten smashed by unranked Baylor a few weeks back, it would be playing against the Irish.
So, in Glendale’s match-up of the woulda-, coulda-, shoulda-beens, who do you pick?
