According to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s ghost-“tweeters,” at least two big-name Republican presidential hopefuls have sought his input in the past few days regarding “immigration and other matters” — and Arpaio’s lovin’ the (alleged) attention.

According to Arpaio, over the weekend, he “received phone call at my house from TX. Gov. Rick Perry. Had a
great conversation especially about immigration and other matters.”

Apparently not satisfied with the caliber of his Twitter-town name-dropping, about three hours after the “tweet” about Perry, Arpaio’s ghost-“tweeters” subtly bragged the following:

“Interesting day Saturday, received call from Gov Perry. 3 hours later received a call from Mitt Romney’s campaign official.”

Arpaio also has claimed Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann has
sought his guidance in preparing for a presidential campaign.

Before jumping into bed with America’s self-proclaimed “toughest
sheriff,” the out-of-state presidential hopefuls may want to chat with
the aging
law-dog about some of his other passions: reality TV, jailhouse Elvis-themed panty
parties
, inmate coloring contests, and other regional humiliations that
have become staples of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office under
Arpaio’s rule, and earned Arizona the top spot in a recent ranking of
the worst states in America.

Given the sheriff’s history when it comes to exaggerating encounters with well-known politcos (remember that “meeting” Arpaio had with Vice President Joe Biden
in 2009? And how — in reality — that “meeting” consisted of the
sheriff showing up uninvited to a hotel to shake the veep’s hand?), we
contacted both Perry and Romney’s campaigns to find out if these
conversations actually took place. They didn’t immediately get back to
us, but we’ll let you know when they do.
