Ethics Investigators: Daniel Patterson Is Rude, Has Tried to Trade Favors for Votes, Violated Court Orders, and Has Got to Go

Patterson’s resignation came in April, after a report done on behalf of the House ethics committee claimed that Patterson routinely ignored House rules, “verbally abuses, assaults, and harasses” a bunch of people at the Capitol, was possibly violating court orders, may have written a Facebook post under the name of an ex-girlfriend to recant a domestic-violence claim made against him, and tried to trade sex for his vote on a bill.

By May, Patterson said he wouldn’t be running for office in 2012 but didn’t rule out 2014. Now he’s thinking 2013.

Here’s the post to Twitter from Patterson:

The story linked to in Patterson’s post is about legislators possibly resigning to get jobs at the federal level, including Democratic Representative Macario Saldate, who’s “applying for a deputy director’s job at the U.S. Interior Department,” according to the Arizona Daily Star’s report.

The Star story also notes the replacement process — precinct committeemen would choose potential replacements, and the Pima County Board of Supervisors would appoint one person as the replacement.

While Patterson’s “tweet” claims he had a “good record” as a legislator, the ethics report kind of makes it sound like he’s a grade-A A-hole.

According to the report, there was a “special House policy” that said no legislative staff members were allowed to meet alone with Patterson. Sometimes he’d start “freaking out” and slam the door to his office to begin “ranting and raving.” One staff member recalled Patterson describing people as “fucking idiots,” “backstabbers,” a “fucking baby,” and “fucked up.” One staffer claimed Patterson referred to Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu as that “fag.”

Another staffer recalled Patterson discussing his sexual performance as being “just fine.” One staffer recalled Patterson admitting to using marijuana but saying he disliked “tweakers.” Another staffer remembered Patterson writing a letter to Tom Izzo, the coach of the Michigan State University basketball team, asking him for some memorabilia.

The report itself had much more.

We’re not sure how many times we’re going to feel inclined to post the following video for Patterson, but here it is again:
