Phoenix mayoral candidate are standing outside of the city’s voting centers and making last minute phone calls to nab extra votes on Election Day as voters cast their ballots in one of the most contested — and contentious — election in decades.
Mayoral candidate Greg Stanton stood outside the city’s Burton Barr Library greeting voters this morning. Wes Gullett, also in the mayor’s race, was out at the Paradise Valley Community Center.
“Every vote counts,” says Tony Bradley, Gullett’s campaign manager. He said that many of the people he has seen at voting centers throughout the city are dropping off ballots that are already sealed. “But there are still people who haven’t made up their mind.”
Those still undecided voters are the ones that smiling glad-handing candidate hope to persuade.
Phoenix election officials say they mailed out about 300,000 early
ballots, and about 115,000 have been returned. They also say that more
than 5,000 people have cast ballots at voting centers on Saturday and
Monday.
Former Councilwoman Peggy Neely has also been making phone calls soliciting last minute support.
