Congratulations to the New Times reader who goes by the handle R Russell73, you are the proud winner of this week’s New Times You Write the Caption contest.
On Friday, we asked readers to provide what they think would be an appropriate caption for the above photo of the Internet’s latest “sensation,” George Lindell, for this week’s New Times’ You Write the Caption contest.
Lindell is now Internet famous for his enthusiastic (to say the least) account of a car wreck he gave to a local TV station that has made the rounds on the Internet, and introduced the world to a new catch phrase: “reality hits you hard, bro.”
See Lindell’s video below.
This year, make your gift count –
Invest in local news that matters.
Our work is funded by readers like you who make voluntary gifts because they value our work and want to see it continue. Make a contribution today to help us reach our $30,000 goal!
He now has a Facebook “fan” page and is selling T-shirts quoting his catch phrase.
We picked the five best reader captions and put it to a vote.
See all the entries here.
R Russell73 stole the show with the following:
“Meth hits you hard, bro!”
Thanks to everyone who played, and congrats again to R Russell73 — to retrieve your grand prize of a firm handshake and a glass of lukewarm Phoenix municipal tap water, come to the New Times Building at 1201 East Jefferson Street in Phoenix. Go to the front desk and ask for James King any time after 1 p.m.
