When familiarizing yourself with a culture, literature is one of your best ways in. This is über-true of Ireland, where virtually everyone, from toddling bairn to tottering crone, is driven by the gift of gab to become a fanciful storyteller or silver-tongued versifier at the bare minimum. Then there are those who grew up to be Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, or George Bernard Shaw.
Or W.B. Yeats, whose heroic Cuchulain plays are the focus of spring 2015’s final Book Discussion Group at the Irish Cultural Center’s McClelland Library, 1106 North Central Avenue. The group, led by Joyce East and Mary Wilber, meets from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and admission is free. Visit www.azirishlibrary.org/events/book-discussion-group for details and discussion questions, or call 602-864-2351.
