We’re beginning to wonder if anyone driving in Mesa on Saturday night wasn’t fucked up in one way or another.
An unidentified man, who police say may have been drunk, was hit by not one, but two impaired drivers as he rode his bike in the 1600 block of South Higley Road in Mesa.
According to the Mesa Police Department, the man was riding northbound on the west side of Higley Road when he tried to cross a ramp leading onto a highway.
As he was doing so, two cars were turning right onto the ramp.
The first car hit the man, sending him into the air. When he landed, he did so on the hood of the second car, before it had a chance to stop.
Mesa Police Detective Steve Berry tells New Times the two drivers didn’t know each other but each was impaired in one way or another.
One, he says, was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. The other was under the influence of prescription pills.
The victim, shockingly, lived. He was taken to an area hospital in
critical condition.The jury’s still out on his sobriety, though. Berry
says while it appears he was under the influence of something at the
time of the accident, investigators are waiting for test results to
confirm.
Both drivers were charged with DUI.
