There are few things better in life than getting something absolutely free. And as we start out a new month (how is it already June?), keeping a little extra cash in pocket can’t be a bad thing. From questioning our city’s existence to belting out some good ol’ show tunes, we’ve got three events that will keep both your wallet and your social calendar filled up.
“Should Phoenix Exist?”
When you think about it, it’s kind of crazy that Phoenix has become what it is — an inhabitable city in the middle of the desert. Zócalo Public Square will host a discussion exploring our city’s presence in the desert with a panel consisting of New York University historian Andrew Needham, former Phoenix mayor Terry Goddard, and director of ASU’s Kyl Center for Water Policy at Morrison Institute Sarah Porter. Join the discussion Tuesday, June 2, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Heard Museum, 2301 North Central Avenue. An RSVP is required at zocalopublicsquare.org/event/should-phoenix-exist.

A good neighbor can be hard to find, so when you have one, you should appreciate them. The people at Trellis and 6th Ave Gallery agree, which is why on Friday, June 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. they’ll be celebrating these rare finds during The Good Neighbor Initiative Art Show. The Good Neighbor Initiative will be recognizing 12 good neighbors throughout the year and awarding them with creatively designed benches. Tony Awards Watch Party
For anyone who’s ever dreamed of defying gravity like Elphaba, couldn’t wait to be king like Simba, or just wanted to say hello like Elder Price, the biggest night of the year is coming. Watch the Tony Awards with fellow musical theater lovers Sunday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 West Paradise Lane in Peoria.
