The Arizona Cardinals have signed one of their 2010 draft picks.

Jorrick Calvin, a sixth-round selection, has been inked to a four-year, $1.87 million deal.

The rookie cornerback might have a future returning punts and kicks for the team.

The fact that Calvin is on an NFL team is surprising to say the least. After all, the guy didn’t even play football last season.

After his junior season at Troy University, Calvin was declared academically ineligible for his final season for bad grades.

Still, he was drafted 201st overall by the Cards. They msut have seen something they liked in the five-foot-eleven, 184 pound player.

In the last season in which Calvin actually played, he had 76 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Calvin is known for his speed as he posted a time of 4.4 in the 40-yard dash.

Speed is essential is the NFL and the Cards are always looking for more of it.

You have to give credit to Calvin for sticking with his dreams and not giving up. A year off from football probably would have crushed most players’ spirits.

Hopefully he can make the team and contribute for the Cards.

The big question though: is Calvin still in good enough shape to play in the NFL after his layoff?
