​Some of the Phoenix firefighters who were in New York City after September 11, 2001 recounted their experiences to KTAR.com, including current fire chief Bob Khan, who says of being at Ground Zero, “To this day, it was a surreal experience”…Colleen Clark,  president of the governing board of Maricopa County Community Colleges, admitted to being arrested for DUI back in July, and now one of her fellow board members is calling for her resignation. Clark says she won’t resign…Chandler City Manager Mark Pentz has announced his retirement next spring. Pentz, who has clashed with several city employees’ unions over job cuts, was fired in 2005, and then rehired. Pentz was unavailable for comment…

Studies are showing that the new swine flu vaccine is strong enough to protect adults, and can start protecting recipients within 10 days of the shot. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health calls the data “quite good news”…A man suspected of driving drunk and causing a fatal collision in Phoenix last weekend admitted to drinking a dozen beers in three hours. The man, Jesus Manuel Briseno, allegedly ran a red light and collided with another car. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were killed…As the baseball season nears its end, the Arizona Diamondbacks will donate $2.50 from the sale of each game ticket to Valley of the Sun United Way. Upcoming games at Chase Field include games against the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies.
