After a rough start to the season, Brandon McCarthy’s first year in the desert got even rougher last week.
Two days after the D-backs’ placed McCarthy on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, McCarthy suffered a seizure in a restaurant. McCarthy is okay now and has started to take anti-seizure medication.
Last September, with the Oakland A’s, McCarthy was drilled in the head with a line drive. McCarthy suffered a fractured skull and remained sidelined for the rest of the season.
This recent seizure is McCarthy’s first, but seems to be related to that fateful September day.

McCarthy has not pitched well for most of the season and holds a 5.00 ERA. Though, in mid-May, he did only allow one run over a 24-inning span.
Still, if the side effects of McCarthy’s brutal injury continue to linger, the rest of his career may be in jeopardy.
