What’s going on in Prescott Valley, you ask?
Well, police are currently trying to figure out who or what is the former owner of the foot that was found in a garbage facility yesterday.
Yesterday evening, this showed up on the town’s Twitter feed, which looks like the start of an old-fashioned murder mystery:
Then, just a couple hours ago, things went in a totally different direction:
Prescott Valley Police Officer Paul Dunn tells New Times that a worker at the facility separating trash from recycle found the foot, which the worker believed used to belong to a human.
Police were thinking the same thing when they saw the foot, and even found some other items that made them believe they were dealing with a human foot.
The local paper says a forensic pathologist saw pictures of the foot, and said it sure as hell looked human.
Then investigators found the big bag containing the rest of the bear remains, which changed the opinion on the ownership of the foot to the bear.
So, the obvious question is how multiple people actually thought a bear’s foot was human.
Dunn, who didn’t get the opportunity to see the foot, says the reports are that it had been skinned, didn’t have claws, and had decomposed a bit, making it look pretty similar to a human foot. (After looking at gory pictures on the Internet, we can kind of confirm this.)
“Apparently it really resembled a human foot,” he says.
Dunn adds that it’s likely that the bag of bear parts was picked up by the waste company from a taxidermist.
It’s not a closed case, though. Dunn says the investigation’s on hold, and the medical examiner is getting involved in the identification of the foot.
