Phoenix fast food workers were outside a South Phoenix Burger King this morning calling for a $15 hourly wage.
Arizona’s minimum wage is currently $7.90 an hour, while Democrats in Congress are currently trying to get the federal minimum wage up to $10.10.

“Nobody in the United States should be poor if they’re working a full-time job,” said Tomas Robles, the executive director of Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA).
The fast food workers were protesting with the backing of labor unions, as well as community groups like LUCHA and the Arizona Worker Rights Center.

In addition to a higher minimum wage, two Burger King employees protesting there made wage-theft allegations.
The $15-an-hour wage is part of a nationwide effort, “Fight for 15,” and there’s currently a plan in the city of Seattle to implement that $15 wage.
