Everything You Need to Know About Origins 2018: Set Times, Tickets, and More

Thomas Turner has a special place in his heart for underground sounds and house music. After all, the local electronic dance music promoter and founder of Relentless Beats started out at under-the-radar events and spinning four-on-the-floor tracks at clubs. Hence his company’s ongoing RBDeep events – which feature local and guest DJs dropping cuts of deep, progressive, and melodic house – and its newly launched festival, Origins.

“The response we have received from RBDeep is reflective of the growth in interest of deeper music, which made this the right time to take it to the next level,” Turner says. “This is just the beginning for Origins, and I can’t wait to see it evolve in the years to come.”

The inaugural edition of the EDM event takes place on Saturday, November 17, at Rawhide in Chandler, and will star a curated selection of well-known DJs and producers, each of whom have a yen for both house and underground music and all of their varied flavors and subgenres. Names such as Duke Dumont, Lane 8, Justin Jay, and Autograf will man the mixers throughout the afternoon and evening at Rawhide’s new venue, The Riverwalk. Nora En Pure will also perform a special sunset session.

What else is on tap for the first-ever Origins? Check out the following information guide to the event, which contains everything you’ll need to know before you go.

When and Where: Origins 2018 will take place at Rawhide Western Town, 5700 West North Loop Road in Chandler. The venue’s new Riverwalk, which is situated at the far end of the town, will host the festival. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the music goes until 11 p.m.

Prices: General admission is $69 per person while VIP access is $89 and includes such perks as express entry, a commemorative lanyard, and access to exclusive viewing areas. Tickets can be purchased online or in-person at Zia Record Exchange locations Valley-wide.

Age Limits: It’s an 18-and-over event. If you’re 21, however, you can drink.

Lineup: Performances from Duke Dumont, Lane 8, Justin Jay, Autograf, Nora En Pure, EDX, and Sean Watson will take place during the festival.

Weather: It’s going to be relatively chilly throughout the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 70s when things get going before getting down to the 50s or lower after sundown. Dress appropriately.

Getting There: Take Interstate 10 to take Exit 162 for Wild Horse Pass Boulevard/Sundust Road. From there, head west and follow the signs (or the various police officers or security personnel) that will direct you to where to go.

Parking: As is the norm with any festival at Rawhide, it will cost you $10 to park your ride.

Getting Inside: Have your ID handy, since you’ll need it to get your tickets and wristband. Security will perform pat-downs and bag checks on everyone. Keep in mind, there is no re-entry allowed.

Set Times: The music starts promptly at 3 p.m. after gates open and will run right up until 11 p.m. Local DJ Sean Watson has the honor of kicking things off. Here’s a complete rundown of who’s playing and when:

5 p.m.: Nora En Pure
6:15 p.m.: Autograph
7:20 p.m.: Justin Jay

Food and Drink: Vendors and food trucks will have eats and soft drinks for sale. As we previously mentioned, alcohol will be available for purchase if you’re of legal age.

Water: Yeah, we know, it’s November and it’s going to be cold outside. Don’t let that stop you from drinking water throughout the afternoon and evening. Unless you’re doing the shoegaze thing or just standing still while nodding your head, you’re probably going to be physically active at some point and will need to stay hydrated. Plastic and aluminum bottles and Camelbak-style water bladders will be allowed, provided that they’re all empty upon entry. A free refill station will be available and food vendors will be selling bottled water.

Bring: A government-issued ID, as well as a fully charged cellphone, friendly vibes, glow toys, colorful outfits, and kandi. You can also bring your awesome totems, but only if they are made from lightweight materials and no bigger than 10 feet in height. Inflatables are also okay, provided they are deflated when you enter Rawhide. As far as ChapSticks, cigarette packs, and tampons, all of those are permitted, provided each is sealed when entering. Vaping devices are also good to go, but only if they don’t have refillable chambers containing visible liquid.

Don’t Bring: Anything dangerous, disruptive, or destructive. That includes drugs or related paraphernalia, weapons, fireworks, large bags, drones, laser devices, noisemakers, and air horns. Just be chill and enjoy the festival.

After-Party: Don’t feel like going home after Duke Dumont wraps up his set? Lane 8 will headline the “Origins Nightfall” after-party, which takes place from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. inside the Rawhide Event Center.
