If you’ve always dreamed of a place where you choose from nearly a dozen different versions of the all-American classic that is grilled cheese, then we’ve got some excellent news. Earlier this month, central Phoenix welcomed Toasted, a “grilled cheese gastropub,” to the Melrose neighborhood.
The restaurant, located at 4221 North Seventh Avenue (formerly the home of Harley’s Italian Bistro), serves 11 different types of grilled cheese sandwiches, along with appetizers, soups, and a duo of desserts. Grilled cheese options range from traditional ‘Merika made with cheddar and Velveeta cheese and served with sliced pickles on the side to the Frito-crusted Trailer Park, which comes deep-fried and stuffed with chili and mild cheddar cheese.
Appetizers include fried cheese curds, pretzel bread (with cheese sauce, of course), house-made potato chips, and beer-battered fries. Even dessert options come loaded with cheese; the menu includes Nuvia, a combination of browned Manchego cheese, apples, and raspberry reduction, all of which is fried in a cornflake crust.
Toasted is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call 602-234-0333 or visit the Toasted website or Facebook.
