Staff Writer
|PhoenixWe have an immediate opening for a full-time news writer to continue our record of hard-hitting reporting.
We’re looking for a journalist to cover developing stories throughout the week and to find news of interest to our educated urban readership. Staff writers work under the guidance of experienced editors in a small but scrappy newsroom with a history of excellence, including numerous national and regional reporting awards.
We value ambitious reporting, well-crafted prose, an engaging voice and savvy use of social media. Ideal candidates will have the proven ability to report and write well in diverse areas, such as politics, public health, business, environmental issues, law, and government.
Familiarity with and interest in Phoenix’s diverse culture, music, and food scenes is a plus, as is fluency in Spanish. You will also be working with documents on a daily basis: We would love to know about your experience in finding and working from public records.
This is a union position based in Phoenix. Remote candidates will not be considered, though you can work from home for part of the week. Salary is $48,000-$50,000. Benefits include, but are not limited to, paid time off, 401K, flexible spending accounts and medical/dental/vision insurance.

We are at our best when all our team members are respected and included regardless of race, age, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation and national origin. Women, veterans, people with disabilities, people of color and gender-nonconforming candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Qualified applicants should send their best news clips, a resume and a cover letter displaying a writer’s voice to: phx-staff-writer@voicemediagroup.com
