You know, it doesn’t seem like Phoenix is a big fan of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On Friday, thousands showed up at the Arizona Capitol to chant, wave signs and generally tell ICE to hit the bricks. The protest, organized in part by the Phoenix chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, was part of a national day of demonstration against the aggressive, often lawless tactics of ICE and the mass deportation agenda of President Donald Trump. Similar protests happened at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus and around the Valley, drawing students, teachers and other pissed-off Valley residents.

The protest came as Minneapolis has been roiled by the killings of two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, by immigration agents. Both were tarred as “domestic terrorists” by Trump officials, but in both cases, video evidence captured by bystanders showed the regime’s narrative to be completely false. Plenty of protesters waved signs making references to Good’s and Pretti’s deaths, and some held signs with their photos.

Phoenix has also seen an uptick in ICE activity in recent weeks. On Monday, ICE raided every Zipps Sports Grill location in the Valley, arresting 39 people. The raids drew impromptu protests at several Zipps restaurants, including a particularly tense one at the Park Central location in central Phoenix. On Thursday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona filed charges against four individuals arrested in the raids, including one it claims ran a ring that provided stolen U.S. identification documents to undocumented immigrants.

Suffice it to say, Friday’s protesters weren’t short on material. If you missed the action, Phoenix New Times was there. Here are our best photos from the ICE OUT rally.
