In preparation for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards (this Sunday, Feb. 27) and the booze-filled parties, we’ve come up with a few pairings of our own. Yesterday we tackled five film/cocktail duos and today we bring you five more.
One cocktail for each best picture — some known, some completely invented (the cocktails, that is). So sit down and grab some popcorn, or at least a tumbler, and get ready for one killer Oscar Party.
The Social Network: The Facebook
1 shot Blue Curacao
1 shot Gin
whisper of Vermouth
Most people prefer to stir the gin rather than shake it. Since Zuckerberg shook things up, we decided to shake ours to make a Facebook martini. Chill a martini glass then sugar the rim to stick with the Facebook color scheme of blue and white. Add ingredients over ice in a martini shaker, shake, and strain into prepared glass.
(Depending how dry you like your martini, add as little or as much Vermouth to suit your taste. One of my FB friends only speaks of Vermouth when making a martini.)

Candy such as Nerds, or Poprocks
Chill a cocktail glass with ice. Crush the Nerds so they will stick the rim of the glass, but still have visible flecks of color. In a cocktail shaker, muddle strawberries with a spoonful of sugar. Add Vodka and shake. Strain into candy-rimmed glass.
(We just had to use that strawberry scented villian as inspiration, but don’t let the sugary surface fool you, this is one hard edged bear.)
The Kids Are All Right: Local Red Wine
If you have seen this movie, you will know why.
Those ladies are drinking red wine throughout the entire film. There is also an emphasis on local eating. We did not feel right serving anything else.

127 Hours: The Strong Arm, Bloody
1 shot blended whiskey
1/2 shot Cointreau
squeeze of lemon juice
splash of grenadine
Add whiskey, Cointreau, and lemon juice to a shaker full of ice. Shake and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Drip a little grenadine into it for color.
(Yes, we know. Bad joke. But a mighty good drink.)
Winter’s Bone: Bone #2 in Winter
We researched this one all week to find the right drink. When we consulted Drinksmixer.com, we found that most drinks with Winter in the title had coffee. When we came across the drink named Bone #2, we knew we had a winner.
1/2 shot of Vodka
1/2 shot of Kahlua
1/2 shot of Buttershots
Coffee
Pour in order into a coffee glass.
(Add cream if you wish.)
