$10,000

One new idea for every day in 2011. We’re talking big, small, local,
international, in action and on the drawing board. Here’s today’s —
what’s yours?

Jen Bekman’s on a mission to make great art available to everyone.

The New York-based gallery owner opened shop in 2003 with a goal to expose the work of emerging artists to collectors. Four years later, she writes that she came up with a formula: (limited editions x low prices) + the internet = art for everyone.

Enter 20×200, a site that introduces two new (and limited) editions per week — most available in three or four sizes for different prices — starting at $20. This week, “Bird Power” by of our own local creatives, Carrie Marill, is up for grabs (pictured left).

As Bekman puts it, “there are a lot of people out there who want to sell their art and a lot of people who’d like to buy it. They just have a hard time finding each other … We’re really excited about creating a place where almost any art lover can be an art collector.”

You can nab one of Marill’s prints and read more on the 20×200 project website.
