One new idea for every day in 2011. We’re talking big, small, local, international, in action and on the drawing board. Here’s today’s — what’s yours?

Local artist Mary Lucking asks, “What if James Joyce had been hanging out at the Rúla Búla Irish Pub, sketching ideas for his book (Finnegan’s Wake) on beer coasters?”

Her answer: An ephemeral series of beer coasters (you can grab a couple at Rúla Búla in Tempe), each featuring notes, doodles and quotes about Finnegan’s Wake.

The series is part of ASU Art Museum’s Open for Business exhibition, which closes in a week.

The museum will host a closing ceremony on Saturday, January 29 with performances from 1 to 3 p.m. and a walking tour from 3 to 5 p.m.

For more information about Open for Business, visit the ASU Art Museum website and check out a review of the exhibition by New Times’ Kathleen Vanesian.
