Just because we ain’t got the Great Smoky Mountains and fields of Kentucky bluegrass in this here desert don’t mean we ain’t got folks playing a bunch of acoustic stringed instruments and singing a high-lonesome sound. On the contrary, there’s plenty o’ places in town to play/hear bluegrass music. The Arcadia Bluegrass Jam at Mama Java’s. A Fiddle Jam at the American Legion in Apache Junction. And then there’s the Arizona Bluegrass Association’s (ABA) Bluegrass Pickin’ in the Park — one of our faves. You don’t have to be an ABA member to get your twang on, so grab your banjo, guitar, upright bass, fiddle, or even a kitchen pan and jam.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
