Long ago, when man first came to the Valley of the Sun, presumably he searched for food Mammoths, camels, ground sloths, and horses were all on the menu. As climatic change sent most species heading for the hills or going extinct, man stayed here and realized that the horse was the most useful domesticated animal for work and companionship. Over the years, a specific breed of desert-dwelling, intelligent, and beautiful horses made its way into the hearts and livelihoods of Phoenix residents: the Arabian.
In 1952, Ed Tweed decided to get all of the greater Phoenix Arabian horse owners together and start a club. More than half a decade later, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has grown into a mecca of equestrian celebration. At Westworld through Sunday, February 24, the show will encompass every aspect of breeding, riding technique, competition, artwork, and gear over 11 days.
