The challenges facing local news organizations are very real. That's why reader support matters more than ever. If you believe independent journalism matters, make a contribution today and help us reach our summer fundraising goal of $15,000 by August 9.
Remember Hot Shots, the mechanical sports game with the moving hoop and a catapult to launch tiny basketballs? We sure do, because we totally owned that shit, finger-banging our way to god-like status. But when it came to real b-ball skills, we were — how should we put this? — garbage. We rode pine while the real athletes pounded the boards.
You’ll see some real athletes pounding boards during the Stadium Shootout. The Big Dance-esque doubleheader features the 10th-ranked, Rick Pitino-coached Louisville Cardinals against Tubby Smith’s undefeated Minnesota Golden Gophers at noon, followed by a Southwestern-flavored clash between the physical BYU Cougars and Herb Sendek’s equally brash Arizona State Sun Devils, led by McDonald’s All-American James Harden.
