Those who prefer their movie star bios to be all about tragedy might not enjoy Judy: The Musical — From Gumm to Garland, since it chronicles the life of the Wizard of Oz starlet, but doesn’t focus on her long and hard road through showbiz.

Instead, local scribe Richard Sullivan, who also directs this production starring Broadway’s Paige O’Hara, celebrates the late, great Garland in two dozen songs, all of which are original compositions by songwriter Michael Markowski.

The story takes us from Judy’s early days in vaudeville as the youngest of the Gumm sisters to her career as a child star at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and on into the stratosphere of her troubled adult life, which ended tragically with an overdose in 1969. Along the way, audience members will be treated to a fine impersonation of Garland that tips its hat to her wide talents and impact on popular culture.
