In preparation for Wingstock, Mesa’s yearly celebration of the noble and delicious chicken, we’ve gathered some fun facts about chicken wings from our friends at the National Chicken Council (a real thing!). Here’s one: 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the first “Buffalo Wing” being served at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. Another: It’s estimated that more than 13.5 billion chicken wings will be sold in the U.S. this year. You can get your share of that number at Wingstock, which will feature live music from Johnny Anonymous, the Guitarnauts, and Laura Walsh; a wing-eating contest; and choice chicken from Cogburn’s Big Wings, Uncle Bear’s, Native New Yorker, ATL Wings and more of the Valley’s favorite wing-flingers.

Wingstock flaps into the Mesa Amphitheatre, 263 North Center Street, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Admission is $5 in advance and $7 the day of. Visit www.wingstockaz.com for more.
