There’s plenty of football going on, but one kickoff we’re looking forward to is the start of Glendale Glitters. The annual event will illuminate 16 historic city blocks in the heart of the west valley with more than one million lights — a good reason to extract our poultry-stuffed bodies from the couch.

In addition to food trucks of various blank-on-a-stick persuasions, handmade wares from local crafters, and entertainment including the Phoenix Conservatory of Music Youth Choir and the Uptown Angels rocking Andrews Sisters-style harmonizing and dance numbers, Glendale Glitters is an official Arizona Centennial event. That means Governor Jan Brewer will be released from her crypt so that Santa Claus won’t be the only centuries old figure to make an appearance!
