Entitled “Phoenicians Discredits [sic] the ‘Dry Hate’ State through Stories,” local creative Hector Raul Primero’s new show is an exercise in positivity.
As a result of frustrations following 2010’s Senate Bill 1070 (affectionately referred to as the “show your papers” law) and a greater distaste for Governor Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Primero decided to channel his voice online. His blog, TRUPHX, has gained citywide attention. It’s as a place where “real, positive Phoenicians” talk about their work to change the Valley and rebuff what Primero says is an oft-negative national association.
While “collaborative” and “solo” may not belong in the same sentence, Primero’s show highlights photography and interviews from these designers, artists and activists who are dedicated to bettering the community.
The show holds its debut weekend Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, at The Lab Pop-Up Gallery, 1022 West Grand Avenue. Admission is free. Visit www.thelab137.com.
