For nearly half a century, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company has wowed millions with a unique take on contemporary modern dance, rooted in the African-American cultural experience.

The company comes calling this weekend, performing two shows, each with distinct programs, including Ronald Brown’s Grace, one of the more captivating and popular productions; Episodes by choreographer Ulysses Dove, a deeply interpersonal, emotionally tense performance; and Revelations with original choreography by the late Alvin Ailey himself to a background of gospel and blues.

Curtain goes up at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street. Prices range from $42 to $62; pre-show dinner is available at 6:30 p.m. for an additional $25 charge per plate. Call 480-644-6500 or visit www.mesaartscenter.com.
