The man who brought us the auto airbag also saddled us with the Texas windbag. So say the critics of Ralph Nader, the muckraking consumer activist whose indie run for the presidency in 2000 sucked just enough wind from Al Gore’s sails to squeak George W. Bush into the White House. That shortsighted contention is examined in the fine 2006 documentary An Unreasonable Man. Though the film allows these dunderheads to speak for themselves – as a good doc should – we note that Dubya’s havoc-filled reign is almost up, while Nader’s unofficial career-cum-calling proceeds apace, and all of us, even anti-Nader nincompoops, are better for it.
