Hip-hop has been woven from the lives and perspectives of countless artists and everyday people. The Arizona Hip Hop Experience seeks to explore that rich tapestry during a supercool all-day event on at Tempe Center for the Arts.
Arizona’s hip-hoppers have been on the grind since the days of making pause tapes with boombox cassette decks. During the shindig, some of these local emcees, deejays, producers, scholars, and radio personalities (Blaze Rock, Super Snake, Roca Dolla, and Dr. Matthew Whitaker, to name a few) will lend insight via panel discussions and performances. Also, the film Say My Name, documenting women who’ve staked their claim in hip-hop, will be screened.
