Arizona Sidewinders Cheerleader Auditions Begin January 5

This weekend, the audition process begins for the 2014 Arizona Sidewinders, the cheerleading and dance team for Phoenix’s arena football team, the Arizona Rattlers. Dancers and cheerleaders interested in joining the squad are invited to attend preliminary auditions this Sunday, January 5, at US Airways Center.

The final auditions will be on Sunday, January 12 at the Talking Stick Resort & Casino Showroom and will be open to the public.

Registration for the preliminary auditions, which are closed to spectators, will begin at 4 p.m. in the Casino Arizona Pavilion at US Airways Center. Attendees must be over 18 years old and are asked to bring a driver’s license and a non-returnable 5-by-7-inch or larger head shot. There will also be a $25 registration fee, though the fee is waived for those who attended a Rattlers audition prep class last fall.

Proper audition attire includes:

• a midriff-baring top
• shorts or skirt
• non-marking shoes (soft sole dance shoes, bear claws, or grips are permitted)

Auditions will start at 4:30 p.m. Finalists will be announced Monday, January 6, on the Arizona Rattlers website and will be invited to attend rehearsals on Tuesday, January 7, and Thursday, January 9.

The final portion of the audition process will be held on Sunday, January 12, at the Talking Stick Resort & Casino in the Showroom. The public event will include a jazz routine, hip-hop routine, bikini walk, and black dress walk. A cash bar and menu will also be available. Doors will open at 4 p.m. with limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The final team will be announced onstage at the end of the audition.
