It’s time for a curtain call, Phoenix.
This week, nominees for the 2014-15 ariZoni Theatre Awards of Excellence were announced, recognizing troupes, actors, directors, writers, and costumers across the Valley. Each year the awards aim to recognize greatness in local theater performed by both adults and children, and nearly 100 judges are involved in choosing who steps into the post-season spotlight.
Categories are wide-ranging and aplenty. There are awards for seemingly every production aspect: lead and supporting actors, directors, original script and song writing, hair and makeup, and sound and lighting design. And that’s just naming a handful. From the sprawling list of nominations, Phoenix Theatre garnered some 82 nods, while Stray Cat Theatre earned 16 and Nearly Naked Theatre 22.
Below is a selection of this year’s nominees in the categories of best overall production, best actress, best actor, and best director. The full rundown, including youth nominations, is available on the ariZoni Theatre Awards website.
