I know, I know…so sad.

The West Valley doesn’t seem to be doing so well these days. Earlier this month, West Valley Art Museum “temporarily” closed (read my blog about it) and now, Heard Museum West is calling it quits.

New Times staff writer, Niki D’Andrea, blogged about this issue in early August, when Heard Museum Director Frank Goodyear Jr., speculated a closure by the end of the year.

Now, September 19th is marked as the final day of operations for this three-year location. The Heard, a nationally-renowned museum of Native American history and contemporary culture in central Phoenix, set up the community museum in Surprise in June 2006 as a permanent fixture for outreach efforts. This location, along with another in the North Valley, was launched to share the Heard’s educational programming and community events valley-wide.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.

$30,000

For the final two weeks (starting September 5th), Heard Museum West is offering free admission and a 20% discount in the gift shop for visitors. You’ll also receive 2-for-1 coupons to the Heard’s downtown location.

Scheduled programming will continue until the closing date (for a description of events, click here).
