See? She’s good.
I could blog about a show that you only have a few days left to see…or I could blog about a show that you really should have seen already. But, being that it’s so close to the new year, I really don’t want to look back. No, it’s time to look ahead. That’s why this week’s blogs are all going to be about shows opening this Friday.
First up is Laura Spalding at five15.
Okay, I get that I just blogged about five15 but I promise with all my heart that I wouldn’t be talking about that gallery again if I didn’t feel it absolutely necessary.

Laura Spalding is one of my favorite local artists and she’ll be debuting her solo show titled “From the Passenger Seat” this First Friday, January 2nd.
Toldja so.
Spalding has the uncanny ability to capture this city through paintings of our unique Phoenix skyscape. Her signature paintings show beautiful silhouetted palm trees and telephone lines against pink, blue and purple cloudless skies…so Phoenix.
One of the coolest things about Spalding is that she often paints on found objects. Anything from license plates to metal trays to the metal faces of clothing irons. Her meticulous style always delivers and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for January.
The works in this show are highway and street scenes. The imagery, for any of us, would be boring and monotonous. But, just like Spalding was able to acheive with her telephone pole paintings, she makes the mundane beautiful.
