From 230 miles away in space, Chris Hadfield couldn’t hear the chaos in Boston Monday, but after he heard about the explosions at the Boston Marathon that killed three and injured more than 140 spectators, he shared his very unique view of the East Coast city.

Hadfield is a Canadian astronaut and commander of the International Space Station who uses Twitter to communicate with his audience on Earth.
“Our crew just heard about the horrible events at the Boston Marathon,” he wrote in an update Monday afternoon. “We all pass along our condolences and thoughts to everyone affected.”
He followed the update with a photograph of Boston (pictured above), captioned “a somber spring night in Boston.”
As of the latest Associated Press reports out of Boston, police are saying the explosion left three dead, including an 8-year-old boy, plus more than 140 wounded and receiving care at local hospitals. Authorities are still looking for suspects and a motive in Monday’s attack.
