Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
If the presidential race were like high school – where the cool kid always wins – Barack Obama would be a shoo-in. McCain and Palin have gun-toting rednecks, soccer moms, and warmongering geezers in their corner, while Obama’s got Oprah, rock stars, and most of the NBA supporting his candidacy. Hell, even Palin look-alike Tina Fey said she’d “leave the planet” if the Republican ticket wins.
Our advice this election season? Give in to peer pressure and join the cool crowd of local artists in support of Obama during AZ Rocks the Hope. The event, which benefits the Democratic National Committee, will feature more than a dozen bands such as Silver Medallion and What Laura Says, DJs, an auction of Obama-themed art, and a fashion show featuring designers Lola y Lola and Arte Puro.
