Remember when basketball was basketball and not all about these football-esque drives to the lane and mixed martial arts-style rebound positioning? If you agree, you were certainly jonesing for the days of old on January 21 when the ASU Men’s Basketball team took out its bitter in-state rival, the University of Arizona Wildcats, 53-47, at Tucson’s McKale Center. Not only was the game physically brutal – Sun Devils star James Harden could barely walk at game’s end – but it was a clinic in how not to succeed on the hardcourt. For example, ASU shot 28.6 percent from the field and 17.9 percent from three-point land and the Cats still lost. Ha, ha.
We expect more anti-basketball when the defensive-minded Devils attempt to make it four straight against that team from Tucson at Wells Fargo Arena.
