When the City of Surprise opened the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in 2007, it likely hoped against hope to one day see a headline like “Tennis Great John McEnroe Wins Thriller in Surprise, Arizona.” Wish granted last November 9, when McEnroe took down Todd Martin in a kick-butt finale to the inaugural Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships.

The facility recently landed another nice catch with the Fed Cup World Group Match: USA vs. Argentina, a stop on the women’s equivalent of the Davis Cup. (Other first-round WG matches will be going on simultaneously in Moscow; Orleans, France; and Brno, Czech Republic.) Draws hadn’t been finalized at press time, but Team USA includes Ashley Harkleroad, Lindsay Davenport, Lisa Raymond, and Ahsha Rolle.
