Julius Shulman created stunning visual records of the work of pretty much every modern architect of the last century — from Frank Lloyd Wright to Frank Gehry to John Lautner. His moody photographs captured the beauty of California’s modernist movement, and introduced America to a new way of seeing gorgeous buildings. And lest he be forgotten, Shulman’s life and career have been immortalized in Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman, a film by documentarian Eric Bricker celebrating the man some refer to as “the world’s greatest architectural photographer.”

Introduced by renowned local architect Eddie Jones, the film screens at the Phoenix Art Museum.
