For some aerobically inclined folks, summertime means lacing up the kicks, slapping on the sunblock, and hitting the pavement running. Though most of us would rather retreat indoors and swap the scenery for a treadmill and some AC, the sun-loving sadists of the Arizona Road Racers don’t mind going for a run in the great outdoors.
It’s hard to argue with the results, as these fire-forged diehards have killer abs from racing year-round. Founded in 1970 as an organization devoted to promoting wellness through running, the group has become one of the largest running clubs statewide. They hold multiple races throughout the year, despite the killer temps.
The Road Racers will kick off its Summer Series on Saturday, May 28, with a 5K run that winds along a grueling course through Papago Park, 1001 North 52nd Street.
