Don’t cry for the former Safeway International. The snakebit tourney, which first lost its sponsor and then its five-year home at the Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, has landed on its FootJoy-clad feet at the City of Phoenix’s newly renovated Papago Golf Course. Round one of the 72-hole, $1.5 million J Golf Phoenix LPGA International is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, at the municipal course, which is bracketed by Papago Park’s scenic buttes. The really good news is that two-time-defending champ Lorena Ochoa will be back, and, for the first time on Arizona soil, the superstar will go head to head with Michelle Wie. Super coolio.
