President Franklin D. Roosevelt dropped the ultimate gem — “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” — but what about those thrill-seekers who relish being creeped out and love all things that go bump in the night? Well, Phoenix FearCON is right up their dark alley.

Locally produced, but international in scope, FearCON celebrates feature-length horror flicks and short films of all scary stripes. This year’s most compelling offering is the documentary Zero Kills, in which Austrian filmmaker Michal Kosakowski follows up with participants of a previous project where he assisted everyday people in creating and acting in short films based on their own murder fantasies. In addition to film screenings, FearCON ups the fun factor with burlesque from Provocatease, music by psychobilly rockers Creepsville 666, and an appearance from B-movie badass Fred Williamson.
