Matt Toomey would like his chicken back.

An “Abducted Chicken” flier posted around town reads that on December 8, someone broke into his backyard coop and attempted to steal two chickens.

The alleged thief made off with his medium-sized, brown Araucana (pictured left) and dropped the second after being chased by a neighbor.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.

$30,000

Araucana-breed chickens are originally from Chile and are known for their blue eggs and distinguishable feather tufts near their ears.

Toomey lives in Tempe, southwest of ASU, and near Mitchell Park. He hopes the theft was just a prank and asks whoever took the chicken to return it to his backyard.

Anyone who has seen the chicken (pictured in the flier) or has more information is encouraged to email Toomey at mbtoomey@gmail.com.
