Beer pong, cornhole, hillbilly golf, and yackle ball; familiarity with any or all of these delightfully ignoble time-killers could suggest plenty about someone’s recreational preferences. But it ultimately suggests one thing, one modern and oft-besmirched compound word: tailgating. Not the pesky action that happens on the road, but the verb by the curb. In the last couple of decades, tailgating has gone from a faithful few pre-gamers to, in many cases, thriving pre-game party neighborhoods; a sports fanatic subculture becoming a popular culture mainstay.

In celebration of the all-American pavement party, Discount Cab is hosting Tailgate Games, Saturday, November 17, at Scottsdale’s Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, 7555 North Pima Road. With a bevy of booze vendors, BBQ, live music, cornhole, and volleyball tourneys with cash prizes, the event might just live up to it’s billing as “the best tailgate party of the year.”
