Tempe’s recent history is full of ill-fated attempts to “get on the map.” The city’s bid to build the Cardinals’ stadium chased the franchise to Glendale, and its Town Lake has been more effective in attracting tropical diseases than businesses. But, through all of its missteps, Tempe has always had one thing going for it—the city throws one hell of a New Year’s Eve party.

There will be a ton of live music — including the Gin Blossoms — and the traditional (albeit corny) chip-drop at midnight. The party will also feature a BMX bike demonstration at 7 p.m. on Sixth Street, magic acts on Fourth Street at 5:30, and a host of other activities.
