Forget about the exhaustion, forget about the cramps, forget about the dehydration and forget about the chafed nipples—we think the big challenge with running is boredom. If you’re not running competitively, the whole activity can get a bit dull, which makes it really tough to stay motivated.

If you’re looking to run a 5K that will keep your attention, the Ridiculous Obstacle Course Race on Saturday, November 15, at Salt River Fields, 7555 North Pima Road in Scottsdale, might be up your alley. The race is styled after the kind of wacky obstacles you’d see on an episode of American Gladiators (minus the washed-up football players trying to knock you out) so there will be plenty to catch your interest. Among the 15 obstacles are rubber wrecking balls, an inflatable water slide, a moon bounce, a Tarzan Swing, and a stretch of tires. The race is not timed and open to amateurs.

Race times start as early as 7:30 a.m. Registration will run you $63 and can be completed at www.rocrace.com/phoenix.

Sat., Nov. 15, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., 2014
